Review
The WD Black SN850X is the enthusiast's sweet spot: it delivers 7,300 MB/s reads that come within a hair of the Samsung 990 Pro, usually for less money. That price-to-performance ratio is why it shows up on so many best-of lists.
Western Digital positions it as a gaming drive, and its Game Mode 2.0 software tunes the drive for faster load times. For PC builders it's a drop-in upgrade, and the optional heatsink SKU makes it a solid PS5 expansion choice as well.
The only real caveat is thermals: under sustained writes it can run warm, so a heatsink or decent case airflow is recommended for heavy use. For the price, it's one of the easiest Gen4 recommendations to make.
